Accessibility of information resources is a topic that is broadly understood, but details of the barriers to accessibility are sometimes maddeningly complicated. This session will focus on some of the less-discussed problems in making published information accessible, such as license restrictions, as well as taking a look at possible solutions to these issues.

Amanda J. Wilson

Amanda J. Wilson is Chief of the NLM Office of Engagement and Training (OET), bringing together general engagement, training, and outreach staff from across NLM to focus on NLM’s presence across the U.S. and internationally. OET is also home to the Environmental Health Information Partnership for NLM and coordinates the Network of the National Library of Medicine.

Anna Lawson

Anna Lawson is Professor of Law and Joint Director of the Centre for Disability Studies at the University of Leeds, UK. Her research focuses on issues of disability equality and human rights, with a particular focus on accessibility. Along with her fellow director of the Centre for Disability Studies, she founded and edits the new open access International Journal for Disability and Social Justice. As a blind person, Anna accesses published work via a screen reader or via audio formats.

Bill Kasdorf

Bill Kasdorf, is Principal of Kasdorf & Associates, LLC, a consultancy focusing on editorial and production workflows, content modeling, standards and best practices alignment, and accessibility. He is a founding partner of Publishing Technology Partners. He is the W3C Global Publishing Evangelist and serves on the Publishing@W3C Steering Committee, Business Group, Community Group, and EPUB 3 Working Group. He co-chairs NISO’s Video & Audio Metadata Guidelines and Content Profile / Linked Document Working Groups. Past President of SSP, he received SSP’s Distinguished Service Award. He is a member BISG, IPTC, and the DAISY Consortium. Bill has written and spoken widely and serves on the editorial board of Learned Publishing. In his consulting practice, he has served publishers such as Pearson, Cengage, Kaplan, Sage, NEJM, ACP, LWW, NAP, Toronto, Taylor & Francis, Cambridge, IEEE, the Cochrane Library, the World Bank, the British Library, OCLC, ORCID, and the EU Publishing Office.

Jamie Axelrod

Jamie Axelrod, M.S. is the Director of Disability Resources at Northern Arizona University and a past-president of AHEAD. Jamie presents regularly on topics related to disability access and higher education, having expertise in disability law and policy, communication and information technology (ICT) access, and the reasonable accommodation process. Jamie is a respected contributor to professional listservs, having received the Fink-Ryan Award for the quality of his guidance, and a go-to consultant for complex issues. He has worked for the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s athletic department, as a mental health therapist, and for Protection and Advocacy Systems, Inc., a disability rights advocacy law firm where he served as an advocate for individuals with disabilities who were claiming that their civil rights had been violated. Jamie has served as co-chair of Northern Arizona University’s Commission on Disability Access and Design, AHEAD’s Board of Directors and the Board of Directors of the Coalition for Disability Access in Heath Science Education.

Olly Rickard

Oliver Rickard is Product Director for Platform Solutions at HighWire Press. He is responsible for leading the development of the content hosting platforms used by many of the key players in scholarly publishing such as the BMJ, Cochrane Library and McGraw Hill. He has been at HighWire for 6 years including some time at the acquired Semantico. Before this Oliver spent 15 years working in software for the cultural heritage sector where clients included the V&A and British Museum.
