NISO Training Series - Assessment Practices and Metrics for the 21st Century - October 26, 2018 - Session Two - Collection of Data and Research Design

This second session will address the starting point of any assessment activity – an understanding of what data may be available to the investigator, what additional data may be needed and the process of research design. The lecturer will touch on privacy concerns in the gathering of data as well as the challenges of collecting and working with data contained in third-party provider systems.

Martha holds a PhD in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and an MLS and an MEd with specialization in evaluation and measurement from Kent State University.

Starr Hoffman (PhD, MLS, MA) is the Director of Planning and Assessment at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries. Her contributed volume, Dynamic Research Support for Academic Libraries, which addresses emerging methods of supporting faculty and student research in both public and technical service areas, was recently released by Facet Publishing and ALA.
